World Bank credit line for SMEs affected The Task Force to Rebuild the Nation (TAFREN) will hold discussions with the private sector and the civil society organisations from next week in order to get their maximum contribution towards formulating a comprehensive action plan to rebuild the tsunami hit island from February. Mano Tittawella, Senior Advisor to the President and Director (TAFREN) said yesterday that the detailed action plan which is expected to be compiled by the end of this month will be focused on improving the infrastructure in the affected areas. Mr. Tittwella said the plans will also include benefits to the small and medium enterprises which are severely affected. "We have asked for a US$100 million credit line from the World Bank to re-vive this sector. The comprehensive action plan should match the requirements of these donor agencies." Tittawella said. He said that all projects will be implemented through line Ministries and the National Planning Department of the Treasury will closely work with the Task Force in formulating the Plan. He also said the the Government is keenly studying a set of proposed guidlines by the Urban Development Authority on future building construction along the coastal belt of Sri Lanka. "The UDA has identified three building zones along the coast from 100 metres up to 1 km into the land from the high water mark. According to the proposal partial buildings allowed within the next 100 - 300 metres. These guidelines will be helpful in introducing new regulations which will also determine the location of beach hotels," he said. |
