by Jayasiri Munasinghe World Bank Chairman James Wolfensohn is expected in the country, reliable sources said. He will hold discussions with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. Sources said that the Chairman of the World Bank would decide about the type of help the WB should extend to rebuild the country after his tour in Sri Lanka. It is leant that the WB has taken steps to provide assistance to Sri Lanka in three stages. Diplomatic circles believe the visit would give the much needed zest to strengthen the relief work now on under the supervision of the President. The National Disaster Centre set up at the Presidential Secretariat runs the relief network. A special website has also been launched for the benefit of the public to know about the work in rebuilding the country. |
