by Anjana Gamage Several members of the Tour Guides Lecturers' Association lost their lives in the tsunami disaster which ravaged the coastal tourist belt in the island. According to the Secretary of the Association, Shantha Senadheera, so far three travel guides have been confirmed dead while several other members had gone missing. According to him Kenzo Doll, a Japanese tour guide who had been on a trip to Yala with some Japanese tourists was among the dead.His body was recovered later. Two other tour guides, Robin Vithana who catered to French tourists and K.W. Kalyanawansa, a local tour guide also lost their lives.Their deaths were confirmed by their respective travel agencies.Their bodies however are yet to be found. "Robin Vithana was travelling in a micro bus with some French tourists to Dikwella. They met with their tragedy in Dikwella and the driver of the bus escaped and had provided these details to Walker Tours", the Secretary of the Association said. According to the sources, K.W. Kalyanawansa had accompanied some Indian tourists to the tsunami hit areas. "We are still receiving information of our tour guides who had been visiting these areas. We do not have an exact count of our members or where exactly they were at the time of the diaster," he further said. Nearly 600 tour guides have been registered under the Tour Guides Lecturers' Association in Sri Lanka. The Association seeks the assistance of the public for further information on their local tour guides.
