by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi A medical team from the Peoples' Republic of China arrived on Sunday night to provide treatment to those affected by the tidal waves. The team which comprises 17 members including consultants will mainly focus on providing treatment to the people in the Southern Province, a Health Ministry spokesman told the Daily News yesterday. Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva together with Chinese Ambassador Sun Guo Xiang were present at the airport to receive the medical team. This team includes specialists in various categories such as orthopaedics, thoracic surgery, brain surgery, epidemiology, sterilization, public and environment health and surgery. The team has also brought drugs and medical equipment to treat the survivors. Apart from providing treatment to the affected living in refugee camps in the Southern Province, this Chinese medical team will also focus on implementing measures to prevent any possible outbreak of epidemics. China has already provided drugs and medical equipment to treat affected people.' This team will be serving in temporary refugee camps and Government hospitals. |
