by Anjana Gamage Local filmstars, singers and lyricists who are the members of Cinestar foundation and OSCA along with the Nawaloka Group of Companies has opened a tsunami victims fund with an initial contribution of Rs. 5 million. A joint effort by the three organisations NAWACINEOSCA, is expected to build 50 houses in the Southern province for tsunami victims. Rs. two million for the fund has been donated by the local filmstars from the collection of their annual musical show Ridhee Reyak which was held on December 23 and 24 at the BMICH, two days before the catastrophe. Apart from setting up of the victim's fund, all leading artistes in the country together with the up coming stars went on a tour of the country to collect donations for tsunami victims. Chairman of Nawaloka Group Jayantha Dharmadasa took immediate steps to supply medicine, emergency services and medical staff of the Nawaloka hospital to attend to the victims in Galle and also donated Rs. 3 million to establish the NAWACINEOSCA victims fund. Dharmadasa was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday to obtain a land belonging to the government to go ahead with their housing project for tsunami victims in the Southern province. |
