France grants 15 m euros

The Government of France has decided to offer Euros 15 million to the victims of tsunami tidal wave in South Asia. This aid will be distributed in particular among those affected in Sri Lanka, Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia and India through the UN agencies and ICRC which are mobilised to carry out this task as follows: UNICEF: Euros 3 million, OMS: Euros 4 million mainly for emergency health kits, PAM: Euros 1.5 million specially for emergency food items, OCHA: Euros 500,000 and ICRC: Euros 5 million.

The financial aid from France comes in addition to the sending of a team of 100 persons (first-aid workers and specialised doctors) who have already reached the affected areas as early as the 28th of December, 2004.
