Construction Chamber pledges support to help The Chamber of Construction Industry, Sri Lanka (CCI) being the apex body of the Construction Industry comprising Chartered Architects, Consulting Engineers, Town Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Insurers, Valuers, Surveyors, Construction Contractors, Building Material Manufacturers and Suppliers will extend their support to the Government in numerous ways during this time of national emergency and crisis, a press release from the CCI said. The CCI will assist the Government in providing temporary shelter and infrastructure facilities, transporting goods and other supplies to disaster affected areas in the short term. The release said that the CCC is aware that, as at December 30 there were 134,173 displaced families which accounts for 611,423 persons from 15 districts of Sri Lanka. These displaced persons are living in temporary camps, temples, churches and similar institutions under traumatic conditions. The CCI is in a position to mobilise multi-disciplinary teams of Consultants and Contractors to work with the relevant Government Officers to identify suitable lands at local and district level and plan, design and implement suitable housing settlements or townships with infrastructure facilities on a accelerated action program. "Several Government agencies are at the present involved in this work. We are confident that with the professional skills and implementation expertise, equipment and machinery available with our members we are in a position to engage Multi Disciplinary Teams of Professionals and Contractors to assist the Government in the implementation of their priority projects," the release said. The CCI is in incorporated under the Companies Act. |
