Gunasekera, Ratnapura group correspondent The Chief Minister Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, Mahipala Herath has taken immediate steps to dispatch, a batch of Senior Administrative Officials, a fleet of vehicles with equipment to reactivate stalled essential services in the Hambantota district. This is a sequel to the conference the Chief Minister held at Hambantota District Secretariat headed by the DS M.A. Piyasena, the SPC news release said. Deputy Minister Chamal Rajapakse, Deputy Minister Pushpakumara and Senior Police officials also attended the conference. It was revealed by the DS that in Hambantota 1,600 dead bodies were recovered and 2,000 demolished houses were located with 1,200 in refugee camps, the news release said. The Chief Minister had already dispatched as an urgent need motor boats, equipment and persons for road clearance and vehicles for rescue operations to assist the essential services units at work. Medical assistance with ambulances, drug supplies and doctors have left the Ratnapura district early December 30 morning. A protection and security service unit, for children displaced under 12 years, has also been set up in the Hambantota district under the instructions of the Chief Minister. SPC has also touched the most important problem of human settlement, in the area by setting up a fund of Rs. 6 million with the assistance of SPC personnel, Ministers and PC Members to find new homes for the displaced, a spokesman of the SPC said. |
