Discourses in mosques, on natural disaster, today

Under directions from the Presidential Secretariat, Director of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, M. I. Ameer, has requested mosque administrations throughout the country to conduct religious discourses in all mosques today, Saturday, with regard to the natural disaster that struck the country last Sunday.

He has also directed mosque administrations to perform charitable acts for the affected people on the next day, January 2, it has been stated in a press release. Ameer has also requested that those who desire to contribute funds through the Presidential Secretariat for the affected people to credit the amounts to President's Disaster Relief Trust, Current A/c No. 204100190136245 at the People's Bank, Head Office branch.

Meanwhile, the department has also initiated steps to collect comprehensive details of Muslim villages which have been destroyed in the North, East and the South under supervision of Al-Haj. Alavi Moulana, Western Province governor and advisor to the President on Muslim Affairs.

Trustees of mosques in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Galle, Matara, Hambantota and the Northern Province have been requested to furnish details of losses suffered in their respective areas to the Department at No. 10, T. B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 before January 4, 2005, it has been stated in the press release.
