Hindu Congress prays for peace in the new Calendar Year We wrote to Your Excellency on December 29, 2004 lamenting that sufficient relief assistance had not been sent to the victims of the tsunami in the North-East Province and appealing to Your Excellency and Your Excellency's Government to co-ordinate the relief work with the Members of Parliament in the North-East province and the LTTE to ensure that all the victims are fully and adequately given assistance immediately and that all international assistance is reasonably channelled to assist them as well. We reiterate our appeal to pay substantial compensation to the victims and dependents of the deceased immediately. We are now relieved to note from the media reports this morning that swift action is to be taken by Your Excellency and the Honourable Prime Minister giving personal attention to the relief assistance to the North-East Province and also that Your Excellency has positively responded to our appeal to work closely with the LTTE also in the relief work in the North East province. We hope and pray to His Almighty Shri Sivakamisamedha Nataraja Peruman that the conciliatory tone reflected in the media reports this morning will lead to genuine efforts and result in immediate peace talks in the new calendar year and pave the way to a political solution to satisfy the aspirations of the Tamil speaking people with the dawn of the new calendar year. |
