Rs.126 m worth medicine to affected areas

by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

The Health Ministry has launched a special program to distribute pharmaceuticals to tsunami victims in all affected areas.

Already, drugs worth of Rs 126 million have been sent to South, North-East and all other affected areas.

Besides, additional health staff will be attached to the Medical Supply Division from today onwards to expedite the drugs distribution program, a Ministry spokesman told the Daily News.

Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday requested the public to send information if there is any shortage of drugs in any affected area.

"The Ministry has also appointed a coordinating officer to every area to effectively carry out the health services extended by the Ministry," the spokesman added.

Nearly 270 foreign doctors apart from local doctors are now serving in the affected areas. "There is not shortage of doctors in those areas," he added.
