A large number of voluntary service groups countrywide are now joining the Lake House-SLBC voluntary service operation launched to provide relief to the people affected by the tidal wave and floods. About 100 people belonging to such groups have been dispatched to Galle, Moratuwa, Meetiyagoda and Ambalangoda areas to undertake relief work. Apart from this, another six groups were dispatched yesterday and another five groups comprising 300 people are due to be dispatched to Ambalangoda, Habaraduwa, Balapitiya, Kalutara and Batticaloa areas today. Another 200 persons had expressed their willingness to join the Lake House-SLBC voluntary service operation by noon yesterday. According to the organisers of the voluntary service operation their biggest problem is the lack of transport facilities to dispatch volunteers and the dearth of information regarding areas needing relief assistance. Those willing to provide transport facilities are requested to contact the voluntary service operation organisers. |
