Old Bens stun Blue Star

by Bernard Perera

Old Bens SC created a major upset last weekend when they trounced Blue Star SC three goals to two at Kalutara. Table leaders in the ongoing KIT Premier league soccer championship Blue Star SC from Kalutara would have never expected a big blow of this nature from a team that is lying far below.

Meanwhile Renown SC defeated Matara SC also by the same margin 3-2. Saunders SC who are hoping to reach the top failed to overcome Navy SC and had to content with a one all draw, sharing one point each. This draw is a setback for Saunders SC.

Ratnam SC managed to keep its position safe with a victory over New Young SC from Wennappuwa. The club from Kotahena will have to work hard if they are to reach the top of the table. This weekend they confront Saunders SC and this is vital for both teams.

The winner in this game could pose a big threat to Blue Star SC.

Army outclassed Jupiters SC from Negombo one goal to nil while Air Force defeated Kandy York SC two goals to nil. These victories did not create major changes in the points table. Victory SC who are placed at the bottom of the table came up with a better performance to hold the strong Police SC to a one all draw.

Blue Star SC who meets Jupiters SC at Negombo should win this game if they are to stay on as table leaders. With this line up of matches there could be a change if favourites lose their respective games.
