Prize and title for service to local industry


Chairman of Mag Group of Companies and Kandy Tyre House M.A. Gunatillake who was awarded the title “Bhoomi Prabha Rashmi Kirana” by the Sinhala Welenda Peramuna (SWP) on its 32nd anniversary in recognition of his service to the local industry for the past 25 years receives his prize and title from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at the anniversary celebrations at the Mahaweli Reach Hotel. Outperforms 5% growth in corresponding period:

Export earnings up 36% to $582 million in October - Central Bank

Export earnings increased by 36 per cent to US dollars 582 million in October 2004 outperforming the 5 per cent growth recorded in the corresponding period in 2003. This is the second highest monthly export earnings ever  recorded. Expenditure on imports grew by 14 per cent recording US dollars 715 million in October, 2004 which includes petroleum imports of US$ 97 million. The resulting trade deficit was US dollars 133 million, a media release from the Central Bank said.
