Britain against political killings and abductions On December 7 British High Commissioner, Stephen Evans, met with representatives of the Forum of Political Parties and Civil Organisation's against Political Killings and Abductions. The meeting took place at the British High Commission. The High Commissioner reiterated the UK's strong support for the Norwegian facilitation effort and for the role of the Sri Lankan Monitoring Mission (SLMM), the British High Commissioner said yesterday. The High Commissioner said the UK regarded it as essential that the ceasefire agreement be adhered to and that human rights be protected throughout the island. He expressed the hope that a resumption of peace talks would lead to progress towards a negotiated settlement that met the aspirations of all communities. ##### Appeal to save kidney patient The Lions of Kotte appeal to 1000 Sri Lankans and corporate and charitable organizations to contribute Rs. 500 or more each to save the life of G. Karunanayake a teacher suffering from kidney failure. Medical Specialists have recommended a kidney transplant. Mr. Karunanayake is married and has a child. Rupees one million is required for the Kidney Transplant operation to be carried out in India. Karunanayake's family has collected approximately Rs. 500,000 which includes a grant of Rs. 300,000 from the President's Fund and Kotte Lions Club is making this endeavour to collect the balance Rs. 500,000. Excess collections will also be given to this family to enable them to meet post surgical expenses and after care. Kulasekera, a 10-year-old school girl of Medadumbara Divisional Secretariat Division in Teldeniya is suffering from a severe heart disease that needs Atrial septal defect surgery at Nawaloka Hospital, Colombo. According to consultant Dr. Y.K.M. Lahie, the surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 230,000, a sum which her poor parents cannot afford.
