News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Brattskar meets Devananda The Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brattskar met the Secretary General and Minister Douglas Devananda at the Ministers residence on Monday and held discussions. An EPDP press release states the Minister explained to the Ambassador the EPDP's stand that the peace talks should focus on finding a permanent solution to the long-standing ethnic conflict and requested that the International Community should pressurize the LTTE to come to the negotiation table at the earliest. The EPDP delegation also brought to the notice of the Ambassador that the LTTE was responsible for the shooting incident in Valvettithurai last Friday. In which an EPDP member was injured and two innocent football players were killed. The LTTE knew that the people would protest and dishonour them for their brutality, and in an effort to divert the public attention they organized the hartal and forced the shop owners to close the shops. The Minister said that the EPDP vehemently condemns this loathsome action of the LTTE and requested the Ambassador to urge the LTTE to stop this murderous act immediately. Former MP S. Sivathasan, A. Rasamanickam. S. Thavarajah, Dr. K. Vigneswaran and Attorney at Law Ms. Maheswari Velantham were also present along with the Minister during the course of discussions. |
