No political party has suitable solution to ethnic conflict in Muslims' favour - DUA

Secretary-General, Democratic Unity Alliance (DUA) Hafiz Nazeer Ahamed, said, though several political parties immerged to mainly win the aspirations and rights of the Muslim community, not a single party had a concrete and decisive solution upto now to put forward at the peace talks.

Ahamed was addressing a party propaganda meeting at Kinniya in Trincomalee last week. This was the first meeting of a series of propaganda meetings organized by DUA.

He said even Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) did not have a permanent solution to put forward to win the confidence of the Muslims "SLMC's leadership now insists for a separate entity at the peace talks without any basic foundation or a collective solution to the ethnic crisis in favour of the Muslim community.

When he had an opportunity during the previous peace negotiations, he only participated as a member of the Government but not represented the Muslim community.

When other parties insisted for a separate Muslim delegation, SLMC leadership kept silent and continued to participate as a government delegate. This is the fate of the SLMC, which was mainly formed by late leader M.H.M. Ashraff to win the aspirations of the Muslims," said Ahamed.

Hafiz Nazeer said DUA had already prepared a draft proposal which has been already distributed among the people through their respective organizations for their views and opinions in order to establish a final document to solve the ongoing ethnic crisis to suit all communities.

Hafiz Nazeer Ahamed recalled that late leader Ashraff's politically far-reaching vision at the time of the problems of the Muslim community by uniting the scattered Muslims brought about the formation of the SLMC. Ashraff's ideologies are now being thrown out by the present power-hungry politicians, who have betrayed the aspirations of the Muslims.

The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Leader Moulavi Hassan Azhari who joined DUA recently. In his presidential address, Hassan Azhari spoke of the incapability of the SLMC's present leadership to win the aspirations and rights of the Muslims for which the SLMC was formed with much sacrifices by late Ashraff.
