SLARDAR championship final stage at Katukurunda

The Sri Lanka Association for Racing Drivers and Riders Championship final phase is to be held this Sunday Nov. 7 at Katukurunda Race Circuit commencing 8.00 a.m.

This final stage has attracted 112 competitors for both motor cars and motor cycles. The super cars event upto 3500cc will see a big battle between the two leading drivers Aravinda Premadasa and Dinesh Deheragoda.

Premadasa has collected a total of 56 points from earlier events while the second placed Deheragoda with 47 points in sure to give stiff competition here. Both drivers will be behind the wheels of Mitsubishi Evo's which has dominated the super cars event in Sri Lanka for four years.

In the Group A Cars Ford Laser/Mazda too will thrill the spectators as Nishan Wasalathanthi and Upulwan Serasinghe are engaged in a battle for supremacy in this class with 46 and 41 points respectively.

Romani de Silva is placed right at the top of the table accumulating 20 points from two earlier outings in the Ford Formula event. Dinesh Jayawardena will have to do lot of hard work on this day if he is to go past Romani. Dinesh is 4 points behind the leader Romani.

In Group P motor cycle event Maduranga Caldera is in front with a total of 36 points. The closest to him in this class is Damien Goonetilleke who has 28 points under his belt. Indian rider S. Rehman who competed in the previous occasion is placed third with 14 points.

Gayan Sandaruwan the schoolboy rider from Gateway International is well ahead over other riders in the MX Class for motorcross. He has aggregated 46 points, while the riders behind him Ramal Pathiratne and S. Rehman both having totalled only 14 points.

Motor racing fans who gather at Katukurunda on Sunday to witness are assured good competitive racing.
