People friendly budget proposals unpalatable to UNP - Joint UPFA statement

Minister Mangala Samaraweera and JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa in a joint statement of the Media Unit of the United People's Freedom Alliance yesterday, sympathised with the UNP for their helplessness before the pending budget proposals which are people friendly but, unpalatable to them.

The Joint Media Release stated:

"The United People's Freedom Alliance is now ready to present their maiden budget before the Parliament on November 18, as a set of proposals so far the best in recent history answering the aspirations of the masses.

In contrast with the foreign oriented economic journey pursued by the UNF regime during the past 2 years and 3 months, the UPFA Government will certainly introduce a budget on November 18 that will aim at uplifting indigenous productivity based on a broad vision.

The ensuing budget proposals which are progressive and people friendly will forge ahead with fresh vigour the national productivity and Development drive the UPFA Government has already introduced to the people.

During the past, all the budget proposals were motivated to satisfy the foreign money lenders without any basis to fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the indigenous population.

The ensuing budget will promote local industries and enhance national productivity and accelerate national development while allocating maximum funds for education, health and social welfare activities. It will also increase the salaries of public servants and introduce financial strategies to sustain the additional burdens consequent upon the rising fuel prices.

The most pertinent among them all is its planning based on an economic vision extending over a number of years ahead. This budget will encourage the citizens to march forward on diverse fields and bring about efficiency in governance.

The UNP sensing the people friendly and progressive nature of the UPFA budgetary proposals, is today politically stranded and has become boisterous.

On one hand they utter palpable falsehood to say that the Freedom Alliance budget is a foreign product and on the hand they say that the budget will be sugar coated but a useless cake. All these nonsensical allegations are nothing but their fright of a progressive budget of the UPFA Government.

It is now amply proved that the UNP sought foreign advice not only for budget proposals, but, also to design the dress of their leader. We are unable to imagine an era of foreign advisors as during the era of the UNP regime. In fact we have to presume that it was the foreign advisors and not the UNP politicians who ruled during the UNP regime. It is quite natural for a political party with no sense of the local impulse to depend on foreign advice for survival.

The United People's Freedom Alliance is not opposed to foreign advisors or foreigners. But it will never stoop to the low level of entrusting the all important task of preparing the budget according to the whims and fancies of any foreigner. Under that condition the UPFA Government can enjoy the nonsensical talks of the UNP who assess others by their own standards.

The UNP who described the Freedom Alliance Government as a minority Government is today unable to rescue their own supporters. We can only sympathise with their political fate. Today the name board of the Joint Opposition itself has disappeared.

Within the party itself there has emerged a challenge to the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who is suffering from the somnambulism of Presidency. The spreading of hatred is the only remedy the UNP has to forget the progress march of the UPFA Government. We have only our sympathies to offer before their helplessness.

The Freedom Alliance has no necessity to be disturbed about the nonsense of the UNP as the UPFA is confident that its progress march will forge ahead like the sun and the moon, braving all obstacles and challenges that come along the way.
