by Ranil Wijayapala The Indo- Sri Lanka Defence Cooperation Agreement is now ready for signing by the two countries to boost the existing defence ties between the two countries, the visiting Indian Army Chief N.C. Vij told the media yesterday. Speaking to the media at the Navy Headquarters following his meeting with Chief of Defence Staff and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri he said the two countries will mutually benefit from the defence agreement. The visiting Indian Army Chief, yesterday had talks with the Chief of Defence Staff and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri at the Navy Headquarters. The visiting Indian Army Chief was accorded a guard of honour by the Sri Lanka Navy during his visit to the Navy Headquarters in Colombo. The visiting Indian Army Chief called on President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday at the President House and exchanged views on the defence relations between the two countries. Later in the day General N.C. Vij met Deputy Defence Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and Defence Secretary Cyril Herat at the Defence Ministry. Earlier on Monday, on the date of his arrival in the country he called on Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, Army Commander Lt. General Shantha Kottegoda and Air Force Commander Air Marshal Donald Perera. |
