by Mohammed Rasooldeen in Riyadh A grand Ifthar party for All Sri Lankans in the Saudi capital was held at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh on Thursday under the patronage of the island's Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar. The function was organised by a group of Sri Lankan philanthropists in the capital on the initiative of Ansar who was the chief host at the break fast ceremony. Separate arrangements were made for ladies and children. More than 1,000 Sri Lankans including families from all faiths attended the Ifthar ceremony which was followed by a delicious dinner. "The function provided a good platform for the Sri Lankans to meet and greet one another during this holy month," Ambassador Ansar said thanking the Sri Lankan Muslims who were instrumental in funding the project. The Assistant General Manager of the Saudi American Bank Saifuddeen Thassim also spoke during the evening reception. On the same day the Sri Lankan Expatriates Society (SLES) in Jeddah held a similar party at the Sri Lankan International School in the Western province. The Consul General based in Jeddah, A. M. J. Sadiq was the chief guest at the party where more than 200 members of the community took part in the Ifthar with their families. "It was heartening to note that members of the island's various communities have got together to celebrate the Ramadan in a fitting manner," Sadiq said adding that this sets a good example to be emulated by the others in their homeland. |
