by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi A team of Korean plastic surgeons will commence surgeries at the Gampaha Base Hospital for patients suffering from functional deformities due to burn injuries, beginning today. "They are expecting to operate on at least 100 patients who have been selected earlier," Western Provincial Director of Health Services Dr. H. R. U. Indrasiri told the Daily News yesterday. He said this team will be arriving for the first time in Sri Lanka on an initiative by the Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka and they will be performing surgeries for four days. This team of surgeons is from the Jin Sung International Outreach Surgical Team. "They will be mainly focusing on performing reconstructive surgeries on patients who have functional deformities due to burn injuries." added Dr. Indrasiri. He said the team of surgeons will also treat children who are suffering due to hare lip and cleft pallet. He also said the whole program is being conducted under the patronage of the Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Provincial Health Minister Prasanna Ranathunga. |
