Minister wants action to remove book giving wrong info on Lanka

by Nadira Gunatilleke

Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Minister Vijitha Herath has written to the Australian High Commissioner requesting him to take action against the book containing wrong information regarding Sri Lanka, a ministry spokesman said.

He said the Minister had stated in his letter that the book, Welcome to Sri Lanka incorporated with wrong and distorted facts regarding socio, economic, political and cultural aspects of Sri Lanka, has been distributed among the Australian students.

The book has been published by `Times Media Private Ltd' in Singapore. The book is available in Australian libraries. This could cause grave consequences because this book may create a wrong impression and image regarding Sri Lanka.

The Minister has requested the Australian High Commissioner to bring this to the authorities' notice and investigate to find the sources which provided the information.

Herath has also requested to withdraw the book from libraries and to redistribute after incorporating true and accurate information.
