by Ariyapala Wansatilake, Kurunegala Central Special Correspondent Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Deputy Minister, Bimal Ratnayake opened the first re-constructed tank at Hewanpelessa, Kattabuwawa in Yapahuwa electorate last Saturday evening. Kattabuwawa is the first re-constructed tank in the North Western Province under the 'Dahasak Wev Project'. Deputy Minister Bimal Ratnayake speaking to farmers gathered round the wewa said they allocated Rs. 1.3 million for this task but not a single cent went to the contractors. 'Under the 'Dahasak Wev' project we will renovate 1000 tanks. There are 171 renovated tanks in Kurunegala and Puttalam districts. Out of this 171 tanks we completed twenty five tanks and 146 tanks are still being completed. Kurunegala District MP, Namal Karunarathna said they have received complaints that some contractors have robbed Rs. 20m which was given for the construction work of Kurunegala Rantaliya Tank. Maho Divisional Secretary, W. M. Jayawardhana, Nikaweratiya Zone Director of Irrigation, Algama, acting Agricultural Commissioner of Kurunegala, Ranjith Ariyaratne and W. M. Ratnayake also spoke. |
