New Anunayake Thera

Most Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera, Lekakadhikari,( the Secretary General) of the Shiyamopali Maha Nikaya of the Malwatta Chapter was elected to the post of Anunayake Thera on Saturday, October 23 winning by just one vote over Ven. Walgowwagoda Wimala Bhuddi Thera, a member of the Karaka Sanga Sabha (a Member of the Executive Committee) who contested for the post. Ven. Aluthgama Dhammananda Thera was the other candidate for the post.

While Most Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera received 8 votes,Ven. Walgowwagoda Wimala Bhuddi Thera received 7 votes. The newly elected Anunayake Thera had served for 13 years as Secretary General of the Chapter.

Ven. Walgowwagoda Wimala Bhuddi Thera, a member of the Executive Committee who was unsuccesful at the contest was appointed the Secretary General of the Chapter. Ven. Aluthgama Dhammananda Thera, the other candidate for the post was made a senior member of the Karaka Sabha of the Chapter.
