A total of 4.8 million kilograms of Sri Lankan tea fetched a better demand from the Common wealth of Independent States, Iran, Dubai, Turkey, Syria and Saudi Arabia, a spokesman for Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers Ltd., told Lankapuvath. A total of 700,000 Kgs of ex-estate offerings at this week's auction met with better demand. Prices for the best Western BOP/BOPF failed to achieve last week's levels which has now resulted in narrowing in price parity between the best on offer and the others. Nuwara Eliyas met with good demand with BOPF in particular showing significant price increases. Clean Leaf Uva Udapusselawa BOPS too met with good demand and sold at remunerative price levels. The BOPFs too met with good demand and sold around last week's levels. The limited selection of liquoring leafy varieties on offer sold at attractive price levels, which were most often in excess of Rs. 275. CTC varieties continued its impressive run with both PF1s and the broken varieties gaining in value. Both dust and off grade varieties met with good demand primary dust along with the secondary types showed a sharp upward movement in price both the fanning and broken varieties in the off grades too followed a similar trend.
