Seven plead guilty by Sarath Malalasekera The owner and six employees of a video centre in Colombo pleaded guilty to the charges against them for selling CDs named "Buddha Bar" with pictures of the Buddha before Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne. The suspects are Mohamed Naris Mohamed Nasmi, owner of the video centre in Kollupitiya and employees Cammilus Dominian Reyan, Mohamed Asroff Mohamed Fasmi, Mohamed Thowfeek, Mohamed Asmi, Indika Achiranga Muhandiram Balan Rajasingham and Nalaka Udawatta. After the suspects pleaded guilty, the Judge directed Court Sergeant Nanayakkara to obtain their finger prints and put off sentence for October 28. The suspects were taken into custody by the Intelligence Division of the Kollupitiya Police for selling the CDs. Investigators told court that the cover of the 61 CDs had semi nude pictures of men and women. Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thera was present in court when the proceedings commenced. Attorney at law Amal Randeniya, who watched the complainant's, requested the Judge to direct investigators to ascertain the other persons involved in selling the CDs. Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara, Ranmalee Hapugoda, Prasanna Lal de Alwis and Prasanna Weerasekera appeared for the complainant. |
