Kandasamy said sustainable reporting is concerned with economic, environmental and social aspects of organisational performance.

"The public expectations from the Accountants are high. The recent spate of corporate failures has focused on the role and responsibilities of accountants and members of the accounting profession are under intense pressure to demonstrate that they are performing their roles to the highest standards," Kandasamy said.

The learning process within ACCA does not end with the qualifications. ACCA is very keen to ensure members and affiliates continue with their professional learning. It is towards this, the Association will be introducing the continuous professional development (CPD) as a mandatory requirement from 2005," he said.

Secretary, Ministry of Education Dr. Tara de Mel said the National Council of Economic Development (NCED) of the present administration established a special cluster for education which is predominantly represented by a cross section of the private sector.

"The NCED education cluster will be a prominent think-tank of the Ministry. We are looking for encouraging ideas, rich with innovation and progressive forward movement for our education sector. We are moving towards encouraging our diaspora overseas to come back and serve in the Ministry for short spells and share with us their knowledge, experience and ideas," she said.
