MAS Bodyline wins National HRM Award 2003 The MAS Bodyline, one of the key garment manufacturers in Sri Lanka was selected as the overall winner of the National HRM Award 2003 among 32 leading companies in the private sector at the HRM awards ceremony at the Trans Asia Hotel recently.
The event was conducted by the Association of Human Resources Professionals (HRP), the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) and the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) for the second successive year. The HR Awards were organised to raise awareness on the potential and ability and improvement of the standards of human resource process, practices and policies. According to MAS Bodyline (Pvt) Limited General Manager Dinesh de Silva winning the National HRM Award 2003 from among 32 private sector companies is yet another significant milestone achieved by the MAS Bodyline. All the contenders were evaluated based on eleven dimensions of HRM strategy:HRM policy fit, resourcing, training and development, performance management, reward systems, career and succession planning, employee relations, industrial relations, employee welfare, HRM information system and social responsibility. He said a joint venture between Limited Brands (USA), Triumph International (Germany) and MAS Holdings (Sri Lanka), MAS Bodyline is for the manufacturer of ladies foundation apparel and is ranked as one of the largest foundation apparel manufacturers in South East Asia. The 300,000 square feet plant employs over 5,000 persons and produces labels such as Victoria's Secret, both retail and catalogue, Lane Bryant and Triumph. The state of the art manufacturing facility produces approximately 10 million pieces per annum and accounts for 2 per cent of garment exports of the country, he said. He said the notable HR practices of MAS Bodyline includes a diverse range of strategic initiatives across the board such as a fully Integrated Human Resource Management System accessible to all employees, a performance Management System incorporating a 360 degree feedback process, training and development and career progression opportunities for all employees and the provision of a variety of welfare facilities such as the medical centre, transport to and from work and an in-house automated banking facility. He said the MAS Bodyline's dedication to maintaining stringent quality, productivity standards and excellent employee relations has resulted in winning various awards over the years including Victoria's Secret Standard of Excellence (1998), National Productivity Award (1999), MAST Quality Award (1999), Taiki Akimoto 5S Award (1999), Most Energy Efficient Installation Award (1999), National Quality Award (2000), NCE Export Award (Silver Medal-2000), Most Outstanding Exporters (2001), ISO 9000 Certification (2002) and WRAP Certification (2003). |
