by P. Krishnaswamy Estate Housing, Infrastructure and Community Development Ministry has called for application from plantation youths who have passed G.C.E. (A/L) examination for consideration of employment opportunities as teachers in Government schools in the plantation sector and clerical appointments in government offices. In an advertisement in the Tamil press in this regard, the Ministry has stated that those who already applied in response to press advertisements and interviewed by the Ministry need not apply again. Minister Muthu Sivalingam told the 'Daily News' that applications were now being called for from eligible candidates to supplement the list of qualified plantation youths which was compiled by former Minister C. B. Ratnayake. He said the Ministry was anticipating recruiting 3,500 teachers against existing vacancies in government schools in the plantation areas and 2,500 as clerks in government offices to offset the need for Tamil educated staff. The Ministry was seeking a Cabinet Paper on this, he said. While joining the UPFA Government, the CWC had requested inter-alia for the absorption of 1,000 plantation youths into the police service and would insist on this too, he said. |
