Colombo Bourse creates history

The All Share Price Index recorded an all-time high in its history reaching the highest point at the Colombo Bourse. The ASPI moved beyond 1,500 points during the day's trading for the first time and at the end of trading closed at 1492.1 points. The ASPI which started the day at 1479.1 points moved up 13 points during the day.

Weekend media distortions shot down

Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday shot down allegations that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has reprimanded Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the previous Cabinet briefing over corruption charges concerning the tank restoration project.

LTTE says homeguards will be released soon

There is prospect of a settlement over the release of the two Homeguards arrested by the LTTE on August 10 in Gomarankadawala, Trincomalee as the 10 LTTE cadres who have been granted bail by the Court were released last afternoon from Batticaloa prison.
