by Anjana Gamage A full figure painting of a woman in a posture carrying a fan was discovered two days ago at the site of the Sigiriya conservation project, Dr. Mohan Abeyratne, Deputy Director General and Director Chemical Conservation of Central Cultural Fund (CCF) told the Daily News. "We are continuing our study on this new finding at the conservation site," he said. Work on the conservation project on the outer wall of Sigiriya graffiti was started in June this year by the Chemical Conservation unit of the CCF and investigations have found five more Sigiriya frescoes . It is believed that these paintings are also related to the same period of the famous Sigiriya frescoes. The Sigiriya rock is widely considered as the eighth wonder of the world, its unique frescoes adding to the mystique of this rock fortress which also forms a part of our national heritage. |
