Campaign to raise funds for Ranaviru Sevana

by Ramani Kangaraarachchi

A campaign has been launched to raise funds to upgrade and maintain the Ranaviru Sevana at Ragama where hundreds of disabled soldiers undergo treatement.

Sonya Kottegoda, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) addressing a press conference in Colombo yesterday on the Ranaviru Upakara Upahara campaign, said it was the soldiers who made the environment to commence peace negotiations.

Ranaviru Sevana was established in 1990 as a home for inmate patients, those with severe disability and needs to live under permanent medical care.

During the peak of the battle, public donation to this home over flowed, but today it has become a forgotten place. Today there are shortcomings here due to the lack of funds. The Seva Vanitha Unit has embarked on this campaign to remind the nation and request their support to rebuild, upgrade and develop this place.

Among renovations required are tiling, colour washing, roofing, replacing bathroom fittings, exhaust fans, and improving the ventilation system. Among equipment required are dressing drums, kidney trays, emergency lamps, furniture, electrical appliances, musical items, sports equipment, mattresses and cleaning equipment.

The Seva Vanitha Unit expects to collect Rs. 5 million through Rana Gee Miyasiya, a benefit musical show to be held at 6.30 p.m. at the Elphinstone Theatre on October 23, tickets will be priced at Rs. 1000, Rs. 500 and Rs. 250.

ASVU has also made arrangements to keep tills and camouflage cloth patches at selected locations from today for the public to wear it and make contributions.
