National Child Information Centre opened

The National Child Information Centre of the National Children's Education Foundation International Headquarters, New Town, Mulleriyawa was opened yesterday.

Urban Development and Water Management Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena, the Director of the Foundation Ven. Bandagiriye Somawansa Thera and a Japanese delegation were present.

The data bank will consist of data on disabled children and other children under the age of 18. These data will be used to implement projects and programs for the welfare of children including the development of education.

The awards presentation ceremony of the Diploma certificates to the trainees of the one year Kindergarten Teacher Training course conducted by the Foundation with the assistance of the Children's Secretariat of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare was also held yesterday. This is the sixteenth batch of the Diploma course.

The National Child Information Centre has been built with the assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Shiaikyokai Institute.
