Lankan bridge players win in India

The former Sri Lankan test cricketer, Asantha de Mel, who presently is the Chairman of Selectors for cricket - displayed a good hand to give a fine account of his prowess at bridge, along with four other Sri Lankans viz. D. P. Senaweera, K. P. Bhaskaran, H. H. J. Keerthisena and Anton Selvanayagam comprising the Bandula team all of whom combined well to be victorious in the team of four duplicate title in the Sethubhandanam bridge tournament which was concluded at Kottayam Club last Sunday.

The Remun team from Tamil Nadu and Triplex team from Kerala finished second and third respectively in the 12-team round-robin league tournament.

The 3 Sri Lankan teams with an average of 185 victory points also lifted the overall team title, with Tamil Nadu coming second with 171 and Kerala third with 159.

The Sri Lankan pair of H. H. J. Kirthisena and Anton Selvanayagam 152 VPs bagged the master pairs title with Tamil Nadu's R. V. Subramaniam and S. Vijayaraghavan finishing runner-up and Asantha de Mel and K. P. Baskaran coming third.
