Pakistan includes two newcomers for one-day tri-series KARACHI, Pakistan, Tuesday (Reuters) The Pakistan selectors have named two new players in a 15-member squad for the one-day tri-series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka from Thursday. One of the new faces, batsman Bazid Khan, is the son of former test captain Majid Khan, who after 63 tests and 23 one-day international appearances also remained chief executive of the Pakistan board and served on the national selection committee. The other uncapped player is Rao Iftikhar, a promising pace bowler, who performed well recently for the 'A' team on a tour of Kenya. "We are using the tri-series to give a chance to some of the new players who have been performing well at the domestic level and for the Pakistan 'A' team," chief selector Wasim Bari said on Monday. The selectors have also recalled middle order batsman Misbah-ul-Haq. "Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are certainly no pushovers in one-day cricket which can be very unpredictable so we have gone for a strong side," Bari said. The selectors have dropped opener Imran Farhat and all rounder Azhar Mahmood from the Pakistan squad that recently played in the ICC Champions Trophy in England. They have also avoided giving a rest to fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Muhammad Sami for the series of seven matches that ends on October 16 followed by two tests against the Lankans. Bari said middle order batsman Asim Kamal would be included for the test matches. The Pakistan squad: Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, Yasir Hameed, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzak, Moin Khan, Salman Butt, Bazid Khan, Rao Iftikhar, Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan, Shoaib Akhtar and Muhammad Sami. |
