Lanka-Pakistan friendship excels

by L.B. Wijayasiri in Kandy

Pakistan High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Colonel Bashir Wali Mohammend said in Kandy that out of a large number of non Muslim countries in the world Sri Lanka had developed excellent friendship with Pakistan and both Sri Lanka and Pakistan had been helping each other where ever such help was required.

That relations would continue in the future too. High Commissioner Mohammend made those observations at a public meeting held after he declared open the upper floor of the Jinnah Memorial Hall, Kandy. The hall was constructed with funds from Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the upper floor was constructed by Muslim Traders' Association, Kandy.

The hall had been named after the late Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Independent Pakistan.

Jinnah fought for independence for Pakistan and won the value of the freedom could be realised only by those who lived in free countries and not others.

Free Pakistan was economically sound today and she was the only Muslim nation in the sub continent who was a nuclear powered nation, he said.

He said excellent friendship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan would be continued and strengthened in the future too.

He called upon the organisers to open a library and a computer Technical Training Centre at the Cultural Hall building for the benefit of young Muslims in the region, because they would never be able to face the world in future without going along with the rest of the world.

He said Muslims in Sri Lanka were facing a critical situation and the remedy would be them to unite for their cause, he added.

Jinnah Memorial Board Member Presidents Counsel A.L.M. Hashim said, Muslims of the Eastern Province were facing a critical situation.

National President All Ceylon YMMA Alhaj M.M. Saleemdeen and Alhaj M.L.M. Nuhman were felicitated in recognition of their service to the Muslim Community.
