It will go down the history as a epoch making speech that characterises the quest for peace abiding in her singular analysis of worldwide terrorism and its causes bringing out bitter truth as to who is responsible for the scourge of terrorism, the congress said in a release. It said: "Her soulful search to find the root cause of terrorism speaks volume for the courage with which she articulated her mind on the subject at an international forum such as the UNO. The resolution of the vexed ethnic problem in Sri Lanka is a priority to which she has appropriately made reference given the context in which Sri Lanka finds itself at the crossroad of war and peace. Her pronouncement that under her governance Sri Lanka will never see another war reflects truly the noble objective of a great statesman and one has to stand behind her in solidarity towards the ultimate accomplishment of peace and harmony. The courage with which she declared that her Government will never send troops to Iraq, deserves special applause from everybody who respect the independence and sovereignty of a free nation. The President's speech has been evaluated by some analysts as one of the finest speeches ever heard in the U.N. Assembly since the speech of her father S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike on the issues of Sues Canal and Hungary in 1956. The Ashraff Congress express their commitments to the objective envisaged by the President and it has no doubt, Sri Lanka will achieve its peace and harmony under the guidance of this leader." |
