by Anjana Samarasinghe

"The Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector is changing rapidly with new technologies that must successfully translate into wider access to the ICT" said CEO of Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation Dr Ekvow Sphio-Grabra at the media conference on Wednesday in Colombo.

"CTO's new constitution has as widened the membership of the organisation to non Commonwealth countries and the entire Telecom, IT and Broadcasting sectors, he said.

"We believe in the role that ICT can play in helping to improve the living conditions of the poorest communities and value partnerships with all members of the international community as a means to facilitate and scale up the delivery of ICT programs for a more inclusive information society, he said.

"Our member countries and institutes can gain solutions for their technical problems and they can expand their ICT related business to perform better. We allow our members to expand their human resource with professional and expert in ICT, he said.

Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Aruna Amarasekara said the 44th Council Meeting of the CTO which was held in Sri Lanka was a good opportunity for us to expose our IT sector to the world market.

The Sea Gateway Projects new CTO commercial orientation provides the maritime industry with all encompassing monitoring and disaster prevention solutions for sea vessels and tankers," he said.

Director Program Development of CTO Ravi Rao said they have trained nearly 3,000 ICT professionals. We have included their information into a data base for the benefit of the people.
