Marginal drop in price indices

Price indices moved down marginally yesterday with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) which opened the day at 1,453.4 moving down by 3.9 points to close at 1449.5 points. The Milanka Price Index (MPI) which opened at 2,156.5 points moved down by 10.9 points to close at 2,145.6 points. A total turnover of Rs 173.2 million was recorded during the day with a share volume of 8.5 million shares being traded.

Foreign investors were the net buyers in the market with purchases of Rs 6.2 million and sales of Rs 5.3 million, a net inflow of Rs 0.9 million. The Manufacturing sector accounted for nearly 64% of the total turnover while the Hotels sector accounted for 8% of the total turnover.

A total of 2,788 trades were executed. Significant quantities of Royal Ceramics and Tess Agro were traded. Kahawatte Plantations, Hapugastenne Plantations, Walker and Greig and Lion Brewery were the main gainers while Ferntea, Elephant Lite, Vanik Warrants and Merchant Bank Debentures were the top losers.
