Kuruppu to manage Sri Lanka team Former Test opener Brendon Kuruppu has been appointed team manager for Sri Lanka's tour to Pakistan next month. Kuruppu (42) will take over on a temporary basis from Ajit Jayasekera, who had requested a break to spend time with his family after a four-year spell in charge. "Brendon Kuruppu has been appointed on an interim basis and his name has been sent to the sports ministry for ratification," said Duleep Mendis, Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive. He said that SLC will appoint a new full-time manager on a two-year contract in time for the tour to New Zealand in December and January. Jayasekera is expected to re-apply for the job. Kuruppu played four Tests for Sri Lanka and scored an unbeaten 201 on his debut against New Zealand in 1987. The right-hander also played 54 one-dayers between 1983 and 1990. Sri Lanka will compete in a triangular one-day series with Pakistan and Zimbabwe before playing two Tests against the hosts, the first in Faisalabad starting on October 20. The team is expected to leave for Pakitan on September 30. |
