JobsNet concludes mobile campaign

The "Shrama Udana 2004" - a Mobile Service, was concluded last Sunday at the Ruwanwella Central College in Kegalle District. Many Government departments and Private sector institutions were represented at the event, dispatching the respective services to the people of the area.

Amidst continuous bad weather on the day, the JobsNet mobile office was patronized by large crowds interested in the services offered through the unit, a press release by the National Employment Sourcing and Delivery System.

JobsNet had received approximately 6000 vacancies in the last 3 weeks alone owing to stepped up activities at remote centre levels and displayed all of these at the Mobile unit while carrying out preliminary interviews for those who were interested in any of them.

Several companies who needed to fill in their immediate vacancies were present on this day and conducted their own interviews then and there.

Jewel Cave international, Grand Group, Instyle Aluminium Fabricators, Watch Guard Holdings, Data Information Bureau, Mohan Industries and Dana Man Power Agency were represented likewise, while many other leading private sector companies have channeled their vacancies through JobsNet. Ceylon Continental Hotels, United Pharma, Golden Key, Digital House, Mobitel, The Autodrome, Alpha Digital Group, Hesperus Marketing, Timex Garments, Mackwoods, X-treme Creative solutions and Ribbs N and L are a few of the companies which.

JobsNet attempted to refer job seekers to, at the special promotion campaing in Ruwanwella.

26 jobseekers were recruited then and there by the companies present; they included, Steel Fixers, Heavy equipment mechanics, Marketing Executives, Auto-Cad Draughtsman, Drivers, masons and welders. JobsNet handled over 3000 inquiries out of which approximately 290 were Data updates based on Preliminary interviews held at the mobile unit, 160 were Inquiries on inactive jobseekers records, while 373 were registered afresh.

The very small unit allocated to JobsNet at the Mobile service was packed from the start to the finish of the event. JobsNet was compelled to cancel an informative and practical learning session planned by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, for the jobseekers owing to limited space, at the campaign.

The sessions were an integral part of the activities planned for the day - especially targeting the young jobseekers that would have benefited immensely, if the sessions were held. However, JobsNet plans to hold the cancelled event at a later date to all the jobseekrs that visited the JobsNet stall and registered.

The event was concluded with the handing over of 20 scholarships for Computer Diplomas worth Rs. 12,000 consisting 220 Theory hours with unlimited practical hours. The offer was through the Golden Key institute of Computer Technology to jobseekers registered at JobsNet, who visited the unit on this day.

The 20 were selected through a lucky dip. The Computer diploma. The "Shrama Udana 2004" was organized by the Ministry of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment and held under the auspices of the Hon. Minister Athauda Senevirathne.
