Wijayasiri in Kandy Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) leader Arumugam Thondaman pledged to extend the support of the CWC to the Central Provincial Council in its activities. He made this pledge when he had a meeting with Central Provincial Council Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake. Their meeting took place at the Queens Hotel Kandy. Provincial Council Chairman Thurai Madiyugaraja, CWC Vice President R. Yogarajan, CWC MP V. Puthirasigamany and other leaders of the congress participated. Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake had lengthy discussions with the CWC leadership on how and what steps should be taken to improve the education of estate children and estate infrastructure facilities. Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake told the media that nothing was discussed at this meeting about the ministerial post in the council that would be allocated to the CWC. However, a decision would be arrived at in due course after further discussions. At these discussions, it was also decided to appoint 420 teachers to fill vacancies in estate schools. Plantation Infrastructure Development Minister Muthu Sivalingam also participated. |
