Filipinos go for Lankan bananas

A team of top officials led by Dr. Anacleto B. Guevarra from Dole Stanfilco Asia headquarters in Philippines met the Governor of the Southern Province Kingsley T. Wickramaratne at the Governor's Secretariat at Lower Dickson Road, Galle.

The officials are in Sri Lanka to purchase bananas specially the Anamalu varieties for immediate export and they are also exploring the possibility of growing bananas in Sri Lanka on a large scale for export.

Governor Wickramaratne has made arrangements with the Provincial Council Minister for Agriculture Hemal Guansekera and the Trade Minister U. G. D. Ariyathilake to assist the team and meet banana growers in the Southern Province so that they could make direct purchases from the growers.

Dole Stanfilco is one of the largest organisations in fruits and vegetables with its headquarters in USA and plantations in the Philippines.
