CB Governor commends FISC assistance by Ramani Kangaraarachchi The Governor of the Central Bank Sunil Mendis commended the assistance of the Centre for Financial Industry Information Systems (FISC) of Japan for extending their cooperation to develop and enhance financial information systems in Sri Lanka at the inauguration of FISAP seminar at the Ceylon Continental Hotel on Wednesday. He said that at a time the world is at our doorstep FISC's support is very important and he hoped that Sri Lanka can use some of their guidelines in the banking industry. He said that intergrity and timeliness are crucial in a market driven financial system for information to be effective and therefore the more dependable our information systems are the more efficient and competitive banks can be as a player in the financial services industry. Therefore banks are investing heavily in IT. The Executive Director FISC Yoshihisa Onishi said that the occasion was another manifestation of the growing ties between Sri Lanka and Japan and hoped the participants of the seminar would get the maximum benefit from it. The FISC Japan is a non-profit organisation established in 1984 and supported by 700 corporate members in Japan including major financial institutions, insurance, credit, telecommunication companies, securities firms and computer manufacturers. FISC has a close relationship with the Financial Services Agency as well. The activities of FISC include conducting research and analysis, establishing standards and guidelines, exchanging knowledge and opinions on financial information systems. The research and analysis on diverse topics related to financial information systems covers payment and settlement systems, Protection of intellectual property rights, Information system auditing, Risk management in banking and personal data protection. The seminar was sponsored by the Japanese government and co-sponsored by the Central Bank. Japanese Ambassador Akio Suda, Director of Security and Audit Research Department Makoto Koriyama, Reaseacher Fumie Mitsuyasu were also present. |
