Dialog GSM computer training centre for Damrivi Foundation

The CHANGE Trust Fund, the charitable arm of Dialog GSM recently donated funds to the Damrivi Foundation to construct a computer training centre built at the Sri Dalada Viharaya in Madukanda, Vavuniya - a 5th century structure.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony was held recently at the Madukanda Temple in the presence of Pradeep Keerthiratne - Dialog GSM's Manager Distribution, Jamil Ibrahim- Dialog GSM's Assistant Manager Technical Unit and Mrs. Yuki Sirimane (Trustee of Damrivi Foundation) and Mrs. Niranjala Gunathilake.

Keerthiratne said "Dialog GSM is privileged to assist the community of Madukanda by donating this facility. We believe that the Computer Training Centre will help build a generation of technology savvy youth in the area, preparing them to take on the challenges of the future".

The previous computer training facility operated from a makeshift building and was maintained with the assistance of well-wishers. Forming part of an Avasa Geya in the temple, the area previously dedicated to the computer facility was barely sufficient to house five computers.

The donation made by Dialog GSM along with the CHANGE trust fund will be utilised to construct a computer training room on the temple premises as an extension to the existing building. This would enable them to house up to 20 computers, increasing the current capacity fivefold. The CHANGE trust fund will also gift a computer at the opening of the new building.

The Damrivi Foundation will overlook the construction and be responsible for the overall implementation of the project. The project will be implemented in six months and coordinated through the Vanni Jana Sansadaya, whose representatives have been trained by the Damrivi Foundation for Project Formulation and Implementation.
