25 years of Geotechnical investigations

by Edward Arambewela

Geotech Limited, the premier geotechnical and foundation engineering company of Sri Lanka celebrated its silver jubilee on September 3. At a time when good buildable land is becoming increasingly scarce, the service provided by Geotech Limited is of great importance to the construction industry in the country, a spokesman for the company said.

He said access to reliable, accurate and timely information on sub soil indications is a great boon to designers of modern structures who are compelled to use the available lands for their projects.

Geotech Limited strives to provide such information with no compromise on the quality of service provided in the past twenty-five years.

A pioneering venture by a group of engineering professionals in the state sector to contribute to the demands of open economy in Sri Lanka commenced operation in 1978 in collaboration with Nuttals geotechnical Services Limited of the United Kingdom. The first joint venture project was undertaking all the geotechnical investigations requested for the designs of the Kotmale Hydro Electric Scheme for the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.

Building on this invaluable experiences on a prestigious project of national importance Geotech Limited has provided the geotechnical information required for the Construction of a large number of buildings and engineering structures throughout the country.

Their unbroken services operating the past twenty-five years has served the developer, engineering and architect of more than 1,700 projects large and small, in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

These projects have been wide and varied in size and complexity, including soil and rock testing for the five major projects, Kotmale, Victoria and Maduru Oya projects under the accelerated Mahaweli Development Scheme.
