Aussie women win ODI's and Test match

In the world of cricket, the Australian women here on tour emulated the winning streak of their compatriot men, when they won the one day series 4-0 and, as well the one - off test against Sri Lanka women by 140 runs at the Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

On the opening day the Australian women, helped by Sarah Edwards 97 made a score of 234, with Shashikala Siriwardene 4 for 47 and Sweni de Alwis 2 for 32 bowling effectively.

In reply Sri Lanka, save for all rounder Shashikala Siriwardene's knock of 49 others failed to impress and were all out for 132 - conceding a lead of 102 runs apart from an opening stand of 63 between skipper Leah Pouton 40 and Juile Wolkner 47 the rest failed to consolidate against the spin of Sweni de Alwis 6 for 36 and declared at 150 for 8.

Sri Lanka having to make 253 to win, could manage just 112 runs with the captain Sandamali Dolawatte making 32. medium pacer Kirsten pike had figures of 8 overs, 8 maidens, no runs, 3 wickets and was supported well by Kate Blackwell and Lawra Bates who had 2 wickets each.

The awards were presented by Deputy Minister of Sports Sripathi Sooriyarachchi and former Minister Harold Herath. A souvenir was presented to the manager of Australia Jaine Stainer on Behalf of the Australian team.
