Mahaweli VISHLI project aims to uplift rural poor by Chamikara Weerasinghe Mahaweli Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena and World Bank representatives will visit Polonnaruwa today to examine villages to be developed under Mahaweli Village Self-help Learning Initiative also known as the Mahaweli VISHLI project. The VISHLI project is a component of 12 year Community Development and Livelihood Improvement Project 'Gemi Diriya' is under way in the Polonnaruwa district. According to a ministry spokesman, Mahaweli, River Basin Development and Rajarata Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena had instructed to expedite the project. The project is funded by the World Bank. The Bank has given US $ 51 million for the project, bank sources told the Daily News. The project is aimed at improving the livelihood and quality of life of the rural poor. |
