by Sarath Malalasekera A former hard drug dealer was shot dead in his car near a filling station in Colombo yesterday morning by two unidentified gunmen who used a T56 and a 9 mm revolver, Cinnamon Gardens Police said. Another person who travelled in the vehicle had received several gun shot injuries and was rushed to the Colombo National Hospital accident service, Police said. Colombo Crimes Division Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda took over the investigations in to the killing on the direction of IGP Indra de Silva yesterday afternoon. Investigations directed by Colombo South Senior SP Gamini Seneviratne revealed that the man had come in his vehicle to obtain petrol from the filling station at Horton Place, Colombo. While moving towards Colombo, the two gunmen had fired at the man killing him on the spot. Cinnamon Gardens Police had cordoned off the area to trace the assailants who had escaped in a three wheeler immediately after the shooting. Police believe this is a contract killing by a rival underworld gang. |
